Celebrating Arbor Day: Growing Roots of Sustainability with the Vegetable Garden Project

On 5 September 2025, the dusty soil at Bakubung and Ratheo Primary Schools was alive with excitement. Little hands gripped spades, laughter filled the air, and the simple act of planting became something extraordinary.

This year, Mankwe GAMETRACKERS, together with It Belongs To Me NPC and Top Turf, celebrated Arbor Day by creating a Vegetable Garden Project that will continue to feed and inspire long after the day has passed.

It was a celebration not just of trees, but of life, growth, and community.

Why Arbor Day Matters So Deeply

Every year, Arbor Day and Arbor Month remind us of something profound: planting today is an investment in tomorrow.

🌱 Trees give us breath. They clean the air, fight climate change, and shelter countless species.
🌱 They give us strength. From fruit on a tree to shade on a summer’s day, nature sustains our bodies and spirits.
🌱 They give us legacy. A tree planted today will stand tall for our children and their children, reminding them of the care we showed.

This year, we went beyond planting trees. By combining Arbor Day with a vegetable garden, we turned this celebration into an act of sustainable tourism and community upliftment. Instead of just greening the earth, we created a space that will nourish families, teach children valuable life skills, and grow resilience in the community.

A Living Classroom and a Lasting Gift

Under the watchful eyes of their teachers, 20 young learners rolled up their sleeves and planted seedlings with purpose. For many, it was their first time experiencing the magic of growing food. The garden they built together will become:

A classroom under the sun – teaching children how nature rewards patience, teamwork, and responsibility.
A source of nourishment – providing fresh produce to those who need it most.
A symbol of hope – proof that small hands and big dreams can make real change.

Moments like these show us that Arbor Day isn’t just about trees. It’s about growing a culture of care — for the planet, for one another, and for the generations yet to come.

Collaboration in Action

The success of the Vegetable Garden Project was only possible because of teamwork. It Belongs To Me, Top Turf, and Mankwe GAMETRACKERS each brought unique strengths to the day.

We were also honoured to have Mr. Thai, CEO of Mankwe GAMETRACKERS, present to share in the planting and celebration. His leadership and encouragement highlighted our shared belief that caring for the earth goes hand in hand with caring for people.

To round off the day, Mankwe GAMETRACKERS hosted a lunch and refreshments for all learners and participants. As the children enjoyed their meals and shared laughter, it was clear that Arbor Day had given them more than just a garden — it had given them joyful memories and a renewed sense of possibility.

Planting for the Future

At Mankwe GAMETRACKERS, we believe that tourism should do more than showcase nature’s beauty. It should protect it, nurture it, and give back to the people who call it home. That’s why we continue to invest in projects that balance conservation with community upliftment.

This Arbor Day, we planted more than vegetables.
We planted knowledge.
We planted resilience.
We planted hope.

And just like the seedlings in the soil, this hope will grow. Strong, rooted, and reaching for the future.

World Environment Day 2025: Educating the Future to Beat Plastic Pollution

World Environment Day 2025: Educating the Future to Beat Plastic Pollution

On June 5th, 2025, we took part in the worldwide call to action for World Environment Day under the critical theme: “Beat Plastic Pollution.” In partnership with Conservation Kids and other valued stakeholders, we hosted an inspiring environmental program that brought together over 200 learners for a day of exploration, education, and environmental awareness.

Learning Through Nature: A 4km Bush Walk at Letsatsing Game Park

The day began with a 4-kilometre bush walk through the scenic Letsatsing Game Park based inside Sun City Resort. Surrounded by the natural beauty of the bushveld, learners were led by experienced field guides who introduced the learners to the rich biodiversity of the park. Along the way, students learned about indigenous plants, animal tracks, and the delicate balance of ecosystems that sustain life in the wild.

The walk wasn’t just about physical activity—it was an opportunity for these young minds to connect with nature, understand the impact of human activities on the environment, and discover how they can make a difference in their communities, no matter their age.

After the walk, the learners were treated to a well-deserved lunch at The Wallow venue, where the atmosphere was filled with laughter, curiosity, and reflections on the day’s journey.

Equipping young change-makers to lead the charge in conservation

This event was designed not just as an outing, but as a platform for environmental education and empowerment. By witnessing the impact of plastic pollution in a natural setting, learners were better able to connect the dots between human behaviour and environmental degradation.

They left with a deeper understanding of their role in protecting the planet—whether through recycling, refusing single-use plastics, or spreading awareness in their schools and communities.

A Day Made Possible by Collaboration

This event would not have been possible without the leadership and dedication of Conservation Kids, a Bojanala-based non-profit organization committed to environmental education. Through their programs in schools—especially those near parks like Pilanesberg National Park—they work to reconnect children with nature and cultivate a sense of responsibility for the environment. Their work addresses a critical gap: many young people living near protected areas have never been inside them. Conservation Kids is helping to change that by creating opportunities for exposure, learning, and environmental stewardship.

Inspiring a future where our planet thrives without plastic

By engaging youth in outdoor education, dialogue, and practical examples of sustainable living, this World Environment Day event helped sow the seeds for a future generation that understands the importance of protecting the environment—and the role each of us plays in beating plastic pollution.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Conservation Kids, our partners, educators, and every learner who participated. Together, we are building a more conscious, more connected, and more resilient future—one that respects nature and chooses action over apathy.

Together, we can beat plastic pollution—one learner, one lesson, one action at a time.

Giving Back To The Community

Giving Back To The Community

We spent this past Friday at Mammitlwa local Primary School where we had the incredible opportunity to give back to our community and make a positive impact by donating school shoes to learners in need. We understand the importance of education and our project aimed to provide much-needed footwear to underprivileged children who often attend school without proper shoes. Through this effort, we hope to enhance their learning experience and promote a sense of dignity among young learners. Let us continue spreading kindness and making a difference wherever we can. Together, we can create a brighter future for the next generation.

Rhino Notching in celebration of World Environmental Day.

To celebrate this year we teamed up with Sun City, Conservation Kids, WRSA and the Pilanesberg Wildlife trust to create a memorable experience for some learners.
On Friday the 3 June 10 of the top grade 10 learners from Sedibelo Secondary School in Moruleng were brought to Pilanesberg National Park to take part in a Rhino Notching experience.
It was sad to hear that most of these learners that are all from the local community have never even been into the Pilanesberg before, making this experience even more special for them. It was so rewarding to see the smiles on their faces and share their excitement. Thank you to everyone that helped make this possible

A great start to the new year- Mosia Family gets a new home.

A great start to the new year- Mosia Family gets a new home.

We run a number of CSI projects in the area around Pilanesberg doing what we can to help the community. We have just completed our first project for the year and our hearts are happy to have been able to help someone in need.

In September 2019, Ms Selina Ntebo approached Mankwe GAMETRACKERS on behalf of the Mosia family – Ms Margrette (65) and son, Kenny (40).  Both mother and son are unemployed, unregistered (no form of identification) and Kenny has a chronic illness.
We visited the family and discovered that the conditions were totally unbearable they lived in a one room shack that was not even enough to protect them from the elements and they slept on the floor even though they are both sickly and Kenney disabled.
They had no source of income although both were eligible for government grants. They therefore had to depend on their neighbors especially Ms Ntebo and the community at large for their next meal, the cleaning of their house, lights and everything else. We decided to take on the task of building them a two bedroom house.
The house was officially handed over to the family on the 17th of January 2020 when the community, ward councillor and many others came to share in the celebration of the Mosia family receiving their new home.
A big thank-you to Sun City, Spar, Engen Garage and Kwa Maritane for donating food and other items to help make the Mosias’ new house feel like a home. The Meyer of Moses Kotane Local Municipality was also present he pledged to ensure that the family is registered in order for them to receive  government grants and sort out their electricity.
